Connect Stories Reporter –

In a chilling incident of violence and senseless murder, a 30-year-old man from Gokwe, Zimbabwe, was brutally beaten to death over a stolen Bluetooth speaker in the early hours of June 11, 2024.

The now deceased Penias Mhizha of Machaya Village Under Chief Sayi ( Gokwe North) was visiting his 39-year-old sister, Nerisa Dube, at Alarm 2 Mine Compound in Kwekwe when the tragedy unfolded.

According to Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Midlands Police Spokesperson, Penias had spent time with his sister before leaving to purchase a beer at a nearby tuckshop around 1900 hours.

He returned around midnight and retired to bed, only to be disrupted by the arrival of three suspects, Moffat NCUBE (46), Justice MUKOSI (36), and Tawanda ACHIONA (31), all from Alarm 2 Compound, Kwekwe, around 0200 hours.

The trio, demanding the return of their stolen Bluetooth speaker, forcibly entered the house, found Penias sleeping, and began assaulting him with open hands.

They dragged him out of the house and into the darkness, where they mercilessly beat him. Eventually, they dumped him at the tuckshop and alerted his sister, who rushed to the scene to find him seriously wounded with blood coming from his mouth and ears.

Despite being taken home, Penias succumbed to his injuries before being taken to the hospital.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Kwekwe Central responded to the scene and conducted preliminary investigations, leading to the arrest of the three suspects who will soon appear in court .

Inspector Mahoko emphasized the importance of resolving disputes amicably and respecting the sanctity of life.

“The use of violence leads to unnecessary loss of lives, and we urge members of the public to engage a third party to resolve their differences peacefully,” he said.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and the need for communities to prioritize peaceful conflict resolution
