Two people died while seven others were injured in a devastating road accident that unfolded along Kwekwe -Gokwe road.
The fatal collision occurred on 30 July 2023 at approximately 6:00 pm, involving a Nissan Caravan carrying seven passengers and a haulage truck pulling a trailer.
Both vehicles were traveling in the Gokwe direction when tragedy struck.
The Nissan Caravan attempted to overtake the haulage truck near the 55 km peg but the driver miscalculated the available space, resulting in a catastrophic collision.
Impact of the collision threw out the Caravan’s driver onto the tarmac, while the vehicle careened off the road, striking two pedestrians who were innocently walking alongside the roadway.
Due to the force of the collision, it caused the caravan to overturn once before ultimately coming to rest on its wheels.
Sadly, the driver of the caravan and one of the pedestrians died on the spot.
Midlands Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident where two people died on the spot and nine others escaped with varying injuries on 30 July 2023 around 1800 hours along the Kwekwe-Gokwe road,” said Insp. Mahoko
