LUSAKA, Zambia – Former Norton legislator and incumbent village head for Shurugwi South, Ward 5, Temba Mliswa has secured a historic victory, being elected as the inaugural Chairperson of the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC), Southern Africa Development Committee (SADC) Chapter.
The election took place during an APNAC conference in Lusaka, Zambia on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in regional anti-corruption efforts.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, Mliswa attributed his success to his ancestors, acknowledging the momentous nature of his appointment.
“In a groundbreaking move, I have been chosen as the first chairperson of APNAC’s SADC Chapter for the next four years. This historic achievement solidifies my commitment to the fight against corruption,” stated Mliswa.
Acknowledging the instrumental role of his predecessors, Mliswa underscored the importance of legislative bodies in combatting corruption, emphasizing the need for a united front in addressing this pervasive issue.
With a focus on collaborative efforts, Mliswa urged former Zimbabwean legislators to join APNAC, highlighting the critical role they play in shaping the organization’s future endeavors.
Among the notable attendees at the conference were distinguished figures including Hon. Chisangano, Deputy Speaker of the Zambian National Assembly; HE Louis Vlavonou, Benin National Assembly Speaker and APNAC President; as well as key members of the APNAC Executive Committee.
As the newly appointed chairperson of APNAC SADC Chapter, Mliswa reiterated the importance of sustained commitment in the collective fight against corruption, both at the national and regional levels.
