In a significant move to support youth development in the Midlands Province, Sheasham Football Club has awarded academic scholarships to eleven junior players.
The initiative will fully fund their school fees from Form 1 to Form 6 at Thornhill High School, allowing these young athletes to pursue their education while continuing to develop their football skills.
The scholarship awarding ceremony took place at Bata Club last night (Wednesday 23 October 2024), where Sheasham FC President Clever Mandaza emphasized the club’s commitment to nurturing talent both on and off the field. “This scholarship is more than just financial support; it is a commitment to our players’ futures,” Mandaza stated. “We want to ensure they have the educational foundation to excel in life, alongside their football ambitions.”
The scholarship awardees include Lovemore Mashonganyika, Joseph Ndlazi, Idea Mhuka, Gainmore Magadzire, Michael Mhuri, Anashe K. Mudzanga, Ashley Tandara, Lovemore Howa, Nathan Mvere, Tanaka B. Maoneke, and Tawananyasha Chipoyera. These eleven players were selected based on their talent and dedication to both academics and athletics.
Parents of the recipients expressed their gratitude for the opportunities provided by the scholarship.
Felix Mvere, father of Nathan, shared his thoughts on the initiative, saying, “This scholarship is a dream come true for us. Education is so important, and now my son can focus on both his studies and football without worrying about school fees.”
Sharon Chipoyera, mother of Tawananyasha, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are grateful to Sheasham for believing in our children. This support means they can pursue their passions and have a brighter future.”
The scholarship program is not only aimed at supporting the athletes financially but also at fostering a collaborative environment with local schools. Mandaza announced plans for partnerships with educational institutions to provide additional coaching and training resources for all aspiring players. This initiative is designed to create a nurturing community that promotes both sports and education.
Looking to the future, Sheasham Football Club intends to expand the scholarship program annually, allowing even more young athletes to benefit from this initiative. “Together, we can achieve great things,” Mandaza concluded, highlighting the importance of community involvement in shaping the future of football in Gweru and beyond.
The Sheasham Football Club Junior Player Academic Scholarship represents a pivotal step in promoting both athletic and academic excellence among young footballers in the region, aiming to empower the next generation of talent.
