Gweru Zimbabwe — in a shocking incident that has captured the attention of the local community, a 28-year-old man from Binga broke into a home in Section 5 Mtapa high density suburb early Thursday morning, not to steal but to seek shelter.
Jealous Munsaka, from Kalonga Village, under Chief Siabuwa was discovered asleep in the kitchen of Mr Godknows Mudzingwa, prompting a mix of surprise and concern among residents.
Munsaka gained entry into the house by jumping the fence and smashing through the kitchen window.
Mudzingwa, alone during a power outage and engrossed in a movie on his mobile phone, was jolted awake around 2 a.m. by the sound of his barking dogs. “I thought nothing of it, believing my gate was secure,” he said. In a bizarre twist, they poured water on Mansaka to wake him. He responded with perplexity, explaining that his friends had left him at a local bar and he had nowhere else to go.
While some community members expressed anger at the break-in, Mudzingwa took a stand for compassion, stating, “I felt it was important to show him some kindness, hence I chided fellow community members against beating the suspect.”
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, emphasizing the importance of respecting private property rights. “If the intruder wanted a place to sleep he should have just presented his case to the owner of the place. this should have served from the inconveniences he is now going through,” he said.
