Kariba-The serene landscape of Kariba has been shaken to its core as residents grapple with a recent spate of earthquakes, the latest occurring this morning at approximately 2 AM and again at around 7 AM. The tremors were felt across the town, with reports of buildings shaking and the ground rumbling beneath residents’ feet. Many took to social media to express their fears and share their experiences of the unnerving quakes.
Residents are understandably concerned about the implications of these earthquakes. I have lived in Kariba my whole life, and I’ve never experienced anything like this.”
Another resident, Tarisai Sianjeme , shared her worries: “I fear for my children. What if the next one is stronger? We need to be prepared.”
In the nearby town of Hurungwe, reactions were similar. Jayson Phiri, a farmer, said, “I heard about the earthquakes in Kariba and couldn’t believe it. We haven’t had anything like this in years. It’s a wake-up call for all of us.”
The government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the earthquakes, but local authorities are urging residents to remain calm and stay informed. Seismologists are monitoring the situation closely, emphasizing the importance of preparedness in the event of further seismic activity.
As Kariba residents navigate this unsettling time, the hope is that their resilience and community spirit will help them through these challenges. The recent earthquakes have indeed served as a stark reminder of nature’s unpredictability and the importance of being prepared for the unexpected.
Anabel Mbewe a Kariba resident said“We all need to come together and ensure we’re ready. This could happen to any of us.”
As the sun rises over Kariba, the community remains on high alert, hoping for stability while preparing for the possibility of more quakes in the days to come
