Chirumhanzu, Zimbabwe — Midlands Police are requesting the public’s help in identifying two suspects involved in a robbery at the Shambanebanga bus stop, near Holy Cross Dam, on December 1, 2024.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the Midlands Police spokesperson, confirmed that the robbery occurred around 4:00 PM when the victims, who were traveling from Gweru to Charandura, got off the bus. They were confronted by three armed assailants wielding a machete, a knife, and an electric shocker, who demanded cash.
The victims resisted, prompting a violent confrontation during which one person sustained a machete wound to the head and another was shocked with the electric device. The thieves fled with $4,400 in cash, two mobile phones, and two pairs of sneakers in a silver Honda Fit bearing the registration number AEJ 9906.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suspects drove toward the Chizhou business center but were forced to stop due to a flat tire. A police officer on duty was alerted, resulting in a swift response from the public, who attempted to capture the suspects as they changed the tire. One suspect, identified as 40-year-old Everson Madzore from Old Ascot in Gweru, was arrested, while two others escaped.
The estimated total value of the stolen items is $4,570, and authorities have yet to recover any of the items. Police are urging anyone with information about the fugitives to come forward.
Inspector Mahoko emphasized the importance of public cooperation, stating, “We are appealing for the usual assistance from the public for us to succeed in this investigation.”
Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact Midlands Police, as their assistance may prove crucial in locating the remaining suspects.
