Pedestrian (61) fatally hit by motorist along Harare-Bulawayo highway

In a fatal road accident Alex Zimheni, (61) lost his life after getting hit by a car along the Harare-Bulawayo Road in Kwekwe.

The accident unfolded the morning of July 22, 2023, around 7:38 am on the 226km peg of the busy road.

Ruvimbo Masevo (30), from Harare, was driving towards Gweru with a single passenger.

Tragically, their journey took a devastating turn when they collided with Zimheni, who was crossing the road.

Zimheni suffered severe injuries, including a fractured left leg and left hand, due to the impact and was rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital for immediate medical attention.

However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital where his condition unfortunately deteriorated and succumbed to his injuries.

Midlands Provincial spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and urged drivers to adhere to road regulations to prevent further loss of life.

“We continue to urge motorists to observe all road regulations to avoid unnecessary loss of lives”, said Insp. Mahoko .

This accident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of road safety for all road users. It is crucial that drivers remain vigilant, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic, and always prioritize the safety of pedestrians.

Additionally, pedestrians must also exercise caution and use designated crossings when crossing the road to minimize the risk of accidents.
