In a shocking incident that has stunned Kwekwe residents, a suspected mental patient fatally pelted a 23-year-old Redcliff man with a single stone at the back of the head yesterday,the police have confirmed.
The now deceased 23 year -old man was walking innocently along a pavement, with his friend, when he was struck with a stone on the back of his head.
Rodrick Hove (21), also a Redcliff resident, was seen by eyewitnesses walking in the opposite direction when he picked up a stone from the ground and hurled it towards the victim with immense force.
The impact of the stone hit the back of the victim’s head, causing him to collapse immediately.
Members of the public who witnessed the shocking incident sprang into action, apprehending Hove and holding him until the authorities arrived at the scene.
Midlands Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.
“Hove was apprehended by members of the pubilc and is in police custody,”said Insp. Mahoko
The man was rushed to the hospital but tragically passed away while still under medical care.
