By Kelvin Kasiwulaya

In a recent wildlife conservation victory, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested a suspect in connection to a case of trapping animals in Zambezi National Park.

Mgcini Ncube (37) was caught on the 23rd of July 2023 in the act of skinning an Impala in a temporary structure in the park.

His arrest led to the discovery of two dried Impala heads, one dried Impala skin, one dried Kudu skin, and eleven wire snares.

This arrest comes as a result of ongoing efforts to protect the park’s wildlife, including increased surveillance and patrols by park authorities and regional wildlife conservation organizations.

The use of wire snares is a major threat to animals in the park, leading to injury, maiming, and death.

Illegal trapping and poaching of wildlife have devastating impacts on ecosystems and local communities, and it is essential to continue efforts to combat these harmful practices. The arrest of Ncube is a step in the right direction for protecting the precious wildlife of Zimbabwe’s national parks and reserves.
