“I’m not promising you the moon and the stars, but I can definitely promise you a smart city,” said William Mazango, the CCC candidate for ward 18.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a CCC Rally held at Senga Area 2 open area.
Mazango believes that Gweru needs a technological facelift to thrive in the modern world.
“Why should robots only exist in science-fiction movies?” he rhetorically asked . “We can bring them into our everyday lives to make tasks easier and more efficient.”
Mazango has already taken steps towards this smart city by providing free wifi to his ward.
“I don’t believe in making people pay for something that should be a basic service,” he said. “Access to the internet is a human right, and I want to make sure that everyone in Gweru has that right.”
In addition to his tech-savvy initiatives, Mazango has also established a burial society that offers free services to the members of his ward. “I want to alleviate the burden of losing a loved one,” he said. “Funerals can be expensive and emotionally difficult, and I want to make sure that no one in my community has to go through that alone.”
Mazango has also started poultry projects and financially supports members of the community who are in need of medical attention. He believes that these initiatives will not only boost the local economy but will also improve the quality of life for everyone in Gweru.
One of Mazango’s biggest promises is to end Gweru’s water woes. “This is not a political issue,” he said. “It’s a technical challenge that we can overcome with the right resources and expertise.”
He plans to resuscitate the roads in his ward using local resources, thus providing job opportunities for the locals. “We have all the tools we need to build a better Gweru,” he said. “All we need is the willpower to make it happen. And I have that willpower.”
Mazango’s sentiments are in tandem with Gweru City Council’s vision of becoming a sustainable, prosperous city of choice by 2030.
