Shurugwi, Zimbabwe – Former Member of Parliament for Norton, Temba Mliswa, has been appointed as the new village head in Shurugwi, under the jurisdiction of Chief Banga.
Mliswa takes over the position from his aunt, Maria Dube, who stepped down due to health concerns.
The announcement was made by Mliswa himself, who took to his official X account to share the news.
With great enthusiasm, Mliswa expressed his gratitude for his new role, stating that the appointment has been a part of his family lineage for generations.
He revealed that his grandfather, Peter Sixpence Mliswa, started the tradition, which was then passed down to his father and the succeeding generations.
Mliswa announced that, on the 10th of February, he would be inviting people to his village ceremony, where he is going to officially meet the people and traditionally take his position as Village Head
As village head, Mliswa will be responsible for overseeing the development and well-being of the community in Shurugwi.
This position holds significant importance within the traditional hierarchy of Zimbabwean society, as it involves making decisions on matters such as land disputes, cultural practices, and conflict resolution.
