All is not well in the Mining Town of Shurugwi, where a 52-year-old desperate lovebird hanged himself after failing to reconcile with a long time girlfriend.
The tragic incident occurred on June 19, 2024, at around 0600 hours in Village Marufu, Chief Nhema.
According to Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Midlands police spokesperson, the deceased, Bright Sibanda, had gone to his former girlfriend, Tariro Mutsanga, aged 54, at her homestead on June 18, 2023, seeking reconciliation.
The couple had separated due to domestic violence issues, and Sibanda’s visit was met with rejection by Mutsanga.
Despite being asked to leave, Sibanda refused to depart, insisting that his reconciliation proposal should be accepted.
The situation escalated, and Mutsanga sought the intervention of her uncle, who resides in the same village. The uncle arrived and asked Sibanda to leave, promising that he could return the following day.
The next morning, Mutsanga returned to her homestead and discovered Sibanda’s lifeless body hanging from the roof trusses in her bedroom. An investigation revealed that Sibanda had smashed the bedroom window pane using an unknown object and then used a copper cable to take his own life.
The police have urged the public to exercise patience when dealing with mediation of their cases, as the incident highlights the devastating consequences of unresolved conflicts.
The community is left to mourn the loss of a life cut short by desperation and despair.
