Illegal mining activities at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) campus and the Bulawayo City Council Khumalo pit have been brought to a halt, thanks to the arrest of nine individuals by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The suspects were caught red-handed and in possession of 85 kilograms of gold ore, along with various tools and equipment necessary for their illicit activities, including a generator, two picks, a hammer, two water pumps, two shovels.
Meanwhile, the police in Gweru are seeking the public’s help in tracing Vumani Ndebele, Sizweni Elias Nkoma, and Victor Ncube, who are wanted for questioning in connection with a murder that occurred in Lower Gweru.
The suspects, along with Thulani Ncube, allegedly assaulted and murdered Mkhululi Dube with a stone, knobkerrie, and knife in retaliation for an alleged stabbing incident.
While Dube has been arrested, authorities are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of the three suspects to come forward.
